So I am a little unclear as to what the Quake Cannon and Volcano Cannon actually are.I never played Epic so I didnt really get into that fluff.

Here are my assumptions correct me if I am wrong.

Quake Cannon = Large bore artillery cannon on a titan, Upscaled battle cannon or earthshaker.

Volcano Cannon = upscaled Lascannon to its limit. Similar to a defense laser.

I am starting to design these guns for my upcoming Warlord Titan and wanted some insight on their design.

I think I will make the Volcano Cannon like a larger turbo laser as opposed to a giant lascannon, I just dont think the muzzle of the lascannon scales up very well.

for the quake cannon I am going to go for an artillery look with recoil compensating pistons and the barrel will slide back to eject the shell possibly or maybe just slide back for the fun of it. I am debating the pros and cons of shell cases foe this. Pros= more dramatic Cons= less realistic. What do you think.

Well, it depends on the era of titan you are looking at. The older, original version of the titan weapons were indeed scaled-up lascannons, but the newest Warlord and the Forge World Reaver use the newer Turbo Laser style. If your Warlord is going to be a Mk1 or Mk2, then the lascannon style will be the way to go. If it is going to be Mk3 or newer, then go with the Turbo Lasers.

That's a pretty good way to go. I like to think of my Quake Cannon as an Imperial Vibrocannon, but it will work either way. I was never able to figure out where they kept the shells for a cannon that big. ;)

I've always considered the quakecannon more like a heavy grenade launcer so it might have a revolving magize carrying shells for it.

O I realized that the original warlord cut out was to large so I scaled it down and I got it cut out over the weekend. I have had some delays due to real life and all but The Warlord is back!

Here it is when I got it home to start on construction.

There is a tape used to hold the material down to the router table that I have to remove. It took me about 2 hours for the whole thing. ohmy.gif

I have learned a few things since I drew the warhounds. Here are some added improvements in design elements.

There will be gear icons to apease the machine god and this cool venting for the Apoc Missie launchers. I am very excited about the Apoc Launchers I think they will be very cool. I might have to build those before I get to the feet Scratch.gif
There is also heat sinks for the turbo lasers much like the Forge World Reaver Laser Blaster.

Keep your eyes here for more updates.

I couldn't resist

This turned out great I am very happy with it. Thou I didn't think out how it would attach to the pivot very well.
I also only cut one set of doors for the 2 missile pods I cut out.

I like the Missile Launcher.

You're continually getting better at visualizing how to get those 2-D parts to make 3-D shapes.

I wonder if we could find some appropriately sized nose-cones for shells so that they could be exposed.

If the shell's ID was the same size as a ping-pong ball, then one could just slide in and give a hemi-sphere front-end to the shell.

I will check my local hardware and toy store. that is a good idea, the holes are about 1/2".
I am working on the legs and Feet today and if I am focused I may get to the torso this afternoon.
Why do feet always have twice the number of pieces as any other part of the model.

The leg armour came out great and the scale is looking good so far. I am very happy about this.

Matt,
I am very excited about this coming together. WIth that head this will be a very cool model. Here is a picture to confirm head scale. In the drawing I sent you a while back the spacing was 4-9/16" and here it is 4-1/2" so we are right on with the scaling. can you send me a view f the head straight on and I can photoshop it in place on my model.

Top. You'll notice that I didn't put the little rectangular notches in the armor plate that is typical in this style of titan. I figured it would be really easy to add in later.

Exactly 4" tall.

I had to hollow it out. The printers charge by the cubic inch (or centimeter). This particular place builds each layer by "printing" a tiny bit of glue onto a field of plastic dust. They then put out another layer of plastic dust and print on top of that. I wasn't sure if I was going to get charged for any plastic dust that was left inside of the thing when it was done, so I made the large holes. Turns out they charge for the glue and not the plastic dust, so I could have sealed the dust inside. Maybe next time. It is still pretty solid, even hollowed out.

Some features of the backside. Note: If the enemy gets this view of your titan, you're already in trouble. ;)

A close up of the face. The flash exaggerates the texture of the piece, but I'll be trying to sand it off anyway. It is necessary for you to print something on one of these 3D printers every week or the fixtures get gummed up. It had been a while since something was printed on this one, so he needed to print until the product was green. The blue is the gummed-up part. It does not seem any less strong than the green part.

Only took 7 months to get through the queue!

"Why do feet always have twice the number of pieces as any other part of the model."

Probably the same reason we have all those bones in our feet.

Ping Pong Balls are officially 40mm in diameter (who knew?)

Here's the info from Plastruct about 1/2" parts:

Plastruct

Hemisphere ½” OD Black VHH-16BK
White VHH-16W

Fits Tubing “16” ½” OD

White TB-16

Progress

I mucked up something with all the chest armour layer.I am not sure how but it doesn't match.

The shoulder gun really unbalances the torso. I will have to do some serious bolting here.

Layered leg armour! Cool!

On the suggestion of some friends I have designed a different Titan Close Combat weapon for a chaos commission.

I am working on some other small redesigns. I forgot to finish the volcano cannon oops! and I need some work on the Laser blaster.

That is very cool looking. Great job!

I admit I'm having one of those, "Maybe I'll get a CCW just in case they change the rules in the future and make them worth it," feelings.

No progress on the head, by the way. I may have found another place to get it made for less than half price. I'll check out the place when I get back to town next week. If neither place works out, I've got one more option.

I started with some drawings Ranger Steve on WiP sent me, but they were very early and incomplete but they did help me get started It would have taken me much longer if I didnt have that help. I did the rest of the design work on my own drawing weapons based partly on old GW designs or inspiration from art work or other sources. I do all my drawing in AutoCAD.
The material is called Sintra, it is most commonly used to make signs and it is cut on a CAD Router. It glues together with PVC cement.

Very realistic height Greg, kudos to you. Those people out there that talk of the warlord being 4' tall is just nonsense. In epic terms, that would put the warlord about twice as tall as the Phantom. Which that was never the case. Can't wait to see it, even though it is Imperium....

It looks ridiculously good. Still a tad large for my tastes, but it has a wow factor that cannot be denied on the proportions and overall look. Add on some details (cabling, etc) and that thing will absolutely rock.

Thank you very much. I couldn't hope for much better than ridiculously good.
It actually ends up at 25" tall considering that my original measurements are based on it standing completely upright. I am very happy with the scale in relation to the newer forgeworld stuff. It is defiantly to big in relation to all the old armourcast stuff but then I tend to think those are too small. I am very happy with how this has progressed. I need to make some minor adjustments , the waist needs to be beefed up a tiny bit this will mostly add about an inch to the height and help the translation from torso to legs. also some i got the mount on the quake cannon sopt on and all other guns wrong they need to shift out just like the quake cannon does so they dont interfere with the legs.

As far as game play goes I had a great time. it took 4 rounds to die and despite the enemy doing their best to obscure my vision its guns were devastating. I deployed way too close to the opponent and had to deploy first in retrospect I think I should have brought it on from reserves in the second turn to be able to deploy with maximum effect. The titan was defiantly a bullet magnet and I would have survived better if it weren't for splintercannons and one lucky cascading Critical hit that did 4 structure points.
I cannot wait to feild my titans in a much larger battle to really get the full effect.

So here is a little update

This is my completed original model.

This is the Close combat weapon for the chaos titans. I will have to try for better pictures so you can see the 8 pointed star on the front. I love how this came out makes me wish I was building my own chaos titans.

So I have been thinking lately that I need to make some Void shield generators and mabey a structure point counter for my titans.
I like Forge World's Void Shield Generators and I would like to make something similar and cast them up so each model has one for each shield they would attached with a little peg and as a shield goes down you could just remove a generator.
Here is a picture of Forge World's generators.

For structure points I was thinking I could make a panel on the back of the titan that had a number of magnetic pieces equal to the number of structure points the mode lad and remove one piece for each point lost. This is a little more tricky because I want this to look as much a part of the titan as possible and still be recognizable to other players as a counter. Maybe something with "fins" or antenna that are removed .

I bought a table top belt/disk sander this weekend off craigslist! 4" belt and 6" disk. this will make building my titans much easier and faster as I cont have to make a trip to a friend's shop to clean up parts and more parts will get cleaned up better. I am very happy about this.

The bit is 1/8" diameter but I can go back in and cut out the tight corners. It will look a little more like this when I first cut it out.
